Me and my fiancee are looking for a good P&S camera (well mostly me) to take to our honeymoon cause she doesnt want me to take my SLR. She personally doesnt care what kind of P&S we get but I was trying to explain to her that if we are going to spend money on a camera it might as well give us a return like a P&S that produces good enough images to sell photos to stock. I am trying to keep our budget between $200-$300 but I can probably try to push it up to $400....but it may start an argument if I do so i would really like to keep it below $300 as much as I can.

Anyway, my dilema is I dont know anything about P&S cameras thats good enough for stock. Do any of you guys use P&S for stock photography and can you show me your images that got accepted here?

If you want a point and shoot that is good for stock, then a point and shoot is not really want you want. You want a digital camera, non SLR, that has the controls for exposure, white balance, etc. Decent ones start at $300, but don't expect to get a lot of stock images out of it. Do some research on the major competitors websites. I have a Canon G9. Cost $499. Has tons of white balance settings, RAW shooting, zoom, and video. You can also buy a wide angle lens or telephoto lens to attach to it. I have many images online taken with this camera. It's small and compact, too.

I would suggest one of the Canon A series cameras like the A650 or as others have suggested the G9. Both cameras are well rated, just do not expect a P&S to perform as well as a DSLR. All of my photos in my portfolio have been done with P&S digital cameras except some scans from 35MM. I like to carry my camera in my jacket pocket. Other option is to consider an Olympus E420. It is bigger than a point and shoot but smaller than most DSLR's, well rated and not too expensive. Checkout my portfolio, I have a 45% approval rate and I believe composition and creativity are the most important factors for having your photo approved.

I've had heaps of images approved for stock that 've taken using a P&S.

If you go to my portfolio, the first 100 or so images were with a P&S - I only got a DSLR about 5 months ago.

The next hundred or so, 50% P&S, 50% DSLR.

Even now I'm getting a few approved that I've taken with my P&S - sometimes it's too difficult for me to drag the bigger camera around.

Here's a couple of recently accepted ones taken with my P&S, however if you do want to see more, I can guarantee that almost all of my first 100 odd photos were with a P&S - so check out the earlier part of my gallery if you're interested (Also, all pics currently showing on my profile page under "most popular" were taken with a P&S).

Canon A650 definetly, has the largest CCD. G9 has the same but in better casings and with external flash hotshoe... Not worth the money difference anyway. IMHO. Or Canon A720, has the standard Point and Shoot 1/2,5" CCD, but is very good still... Nikon Point and Shoots are too slow for my preference...

I recommend the G9. Rugged, pretty quick, nice colors, good quality. It is not really small but still small enough to tuck into a shirt or jacket pocket. Controls are easy and intuitive.

get a canon G5 or G7, far better than the G9 which has too many pixel receptors on such a small sensor. Regards, Ken

Does anyone use a CanonIxus 70? I bought this recently to keep with me all the time when I don't have my dSLR. I have noticed that all but one of my uploads with this camera have been rejected. I'm a bit miffed as I actually did quite a bit of research into what camera to get for the price and also small size. I think maybe I should take it off auto mode and use a manual setting but doesn't this defeat the object of me getting a Point and shoot?? Or maybe I was having an off day and it's not the camera at all. It's nice to look at and use and the images seem to appear clean and sharp....still rejected though :(

It's not just the camera, it's how you use it. I don't even use my DSLR in full auto.

Hi there, I don't use my dslr in auto it's just i got a point and shoot for easy carrying and to be just a point and shoot! I think maybe I just need to experiment with it more. The rejected shots though say poor lens quality which is what I was surprised at as it it is supposed to be a good point and shoot from canon.

Basically, you can take images on a larger scale (12 mp with the G9), but the sacrifice for it is highly pixelated images at the higher ISOs.
I haven't had problems with the G9. I don't think I could sell anything from it taken at ISO 1600 or higher, but 100, 200, and 400 are just fine and dandy. You can even go down to 80 and the images look fantastic! I always shoot in RAW, though, which makes it easier to reduce noise. Once you hit ISO 800 with the G9, expect a good bit of noise.
All in all, though, I think the G9 is great. I looked at both this one and the G7, and found the G9 to have more benefits. But that's just a matter of opinion.

Thanks Teresa. I don't usually find myself needing ISO 1600 and so far find the quality to be acceptable. I haven't tried RAW on the G9 yet assuming it would be to slow. Will give that a "shot"!

I use raw with the G9 all the time. I didn't like the canon raw software but there is a great free raw converter, rawtherapee.

I am mostly seeing canon G9's. Is there any other noteworthy P&S's that got their images accpeted here?

As mentioned above, I only got a DSLR less than six months ago so all of my accepted photos before then, as well as many of them recently, were taken with a P&S. My current P&S is a Richo 6MP, though I've had many accepted that were taken with my older Panasonic Lumix 4MP (I don't use this one anymore though). I'd estimate that half of my gallery has been taken with a P&S, and as mentioned above, all of my first 100 images online were.
